Arthur J. Bittman Sr.

AUSTINTOWN -- Arthur John Bittman Sr., 79, of Austintown, was reunited with his beloved wife, Cathy, when he passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026.

Art was born Aug. 18, 1946, in Altoona, Pa., son of Arthur George and Mary Genevieve Conley Bittman.

Art raised his family in Niles, and enjoyed his grandpa era in Howland.

Art served three years in the U.S. Army, before starting his professional career as an electrical engineer. He worked at Oakes and Burger, then Precision Machine Control, where he retired in 2012. He then promptly reported for work the following Monday.

His dedication to and love for his family was unparalleled. Throughout his life, he strived to be the best father and husband he could be. Art enjoyed spending time with his family, watching old Westerns on TV, "sampling" the cookies his wife and granddaughters would make, reading about his hometown of Johnstown, Pa., and digging into pretty much any technical piece of information he could find. His Dad jokes, though, were a work of Art.

He is survived by his loving children, Arthur John Jr. of Pittsburgh and Amy Blackburn of Austintown; his beloved granddaughters, Marissa Blackburn and Megan (Zach Patterson) Blackburn; and his great-grandchildren, Haven and Caden Patterson, who brought tremendous joy to the last years of his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 55 years, Catherine B. Bittman; his brother, James Bittman; and his sister, Patricia Davison.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.

Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Joseph Rossi and Sons Funeral Home in Niles.
