BOARDMAN -- Annemarie Lutsch Pfingstgroff Conklin passed away on the morning of Friday, July 17, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born Nov. 24, 1934, in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Rosina Bachner Lutsch.
She was a 1952 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.
Annemarie was a member of Honterus Evangelical Lutheran Church, Youngstown, for 62 of her 91 years; while there, she was active in many church organizations, not least of which included singing alto in the church choir. She then joined Good Hope Lutheran Church in North Lima and was a member of the church's Dorcas Circle.
Annemarie enjoyed her hobby of raising monarch butterflies for 15 summers, from eggs gathered in her backyard to maturity in terrariums kept in her kitchen. She was an avid reader, especially of a good mystery and loved doing crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. She was also known to be a competitive Scrabble player.
As an accomplished trumpet and French horn player, she played in a Canfield concert and marching band. Other pursuits included serving as a Girl Scout and Brownie leader, a role that she loved; writing poetry, of which several pieces were published; and embracing a lifelong admiration of and love for horses. Her warm generosity will forever be remembered by family and friends.
She married her first husband, Thomas Pfingstgroff Jr., on Nov. 14, 1953, until he passed away on Jan. 29, 1957. She married her second husband, Robert L. Conklin, on Feb. 4, 1959. After a marriage of 51 years, Robert "Bob" passed away on Nov. 10, 2010.
In addition to her spouses, Annemarie was preceded in death by her three sisters, Rosina White, Marie Thompson and infant Anna Marie; and her brother, John G. Lutsch.
She is survived by her three children, Robert B. (Miona Jansen) Conklin of Gahanna and Brenda Conklin and Karen (Greg) Toothman, both of Youngstown; her sister, Elizabeth L. Donachie of Boardman; grandchildren, Michael L. Conklin and Seth, Evalee and Ayla Conklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service has taken place at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, Boardman.
