Shirley M. Neapolitan 1951-2026

STRUTHERS — Shirley M. Neapolitan, 74, passed away at her home Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Shirley was born Nov. 14, 1951, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late David and Pauline Nittoli Shaffer. She was a graduate of Struthers High School.

Early in her life, Shirley dedicated herself to raising her children. Later, she worked for and retired from Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Words cannot express the love Shirley showed to her children and her beloved sister, Alice Wilson. As a mother, she had the kindest heart and soul, and her warmth shone through her personality. Her radiance was recognized by everyone who knew her.

If you knew Shirley, you loved her. Many friends affectionately called her “the legend, Shirls.” Her vibrant personality, wonderful sense of humor and caring spirit made her beloved by all.

Shirley enjoyed bowling, working out at the YMCA and cheering on her favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

She is survived by her children, Jamie (Scott) Renneker, Janine Neapolitan and Jimmy Neapolitan; her beloved sister, Alice Wilson; her brother-in-law, Carmen (Jennifer) Neapolitan; her three grandchildren, Makenna, Madelyn and Samuel; and her nieces and nephews, Kim George, Gena, Carmen, Jimmy, Jason, Raphe Neapolitan, Dylan and Nathan Paulsey, along with numerous great-nieces and nephews. Also Marissa (Amit) Kumar and Kashton.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her former husband, James Neapolitan.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2026, with a celebration of life to follow from 6 to 7 p.m., at the Kirila Funeral Home, 258 Poland Ave., Struthers.
