Sherry L. Linert 1948-2026

EAST PALESTINE — Sherry L. Linert, 77, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Hospice House in Poland, following a lengthy illness.

Sherry was born July 11, 1948, in Salem, daughter of the late Paul and Myrtle Crabb Mollenkopf.

She was a 1966 graduate of East Palestine High School, where she was active in the marching band. After graduation, she went on to earn her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from The Ohio State University.

She taught for Columbus City Schools prior to moving back home to the East Palestine family farm in 1975, where she taught at Market Street Elementary School in Boardman as a physical education teacher until her retirement.

Sherry was a longtime active member of Centenary United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for a number of years.

She was an avid Buckeyes fan. Sherry also enjoyed gardening, reading, listening to the Beatles and entertaining friends. She continued her friendships with her high school classmates, her fellow teachers and church members throughout her life, and always enjoyed hosting parties for all to enjoy. She was a positive person and cared about everyone around her.

Sherry is survived by two nephews, Doug (Gwenna) Mollenkopf and David (Jennifer) Mollenkopf, both of East Palestine; two great-nieces, Abigail and Victoria; and a great-nephew, Cody.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Buddy Linert in 2010; and a brother, Tom Mollenkopf.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine.

The family will receive friends 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Private burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Sherry’s name to the East Palestine Alumni Scholarship Association.
