Robert G. Hird Jr. 1949-2026

Bob was born Feb. 12, 1949, in Youngstown, a son of the late Robert G. Hird Sr. and Helen M. Kearney Hird.

A graduate of Struthers High School, Bob dedicated more than 30 years of service to the Youngstown Post Office, where he worked as a clerk. Known for his generous heart, quick wit and playful sense of humor, Bob always put others before himself and enjoyed teasing family and friends.

On June 1, 1974, Bob married the love of his life, the former Marilee Ritchie. Together they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage.

Bob enjoyed camping at the Mahoning Sportsman’s Association and golfing in his younger years. He was a proud member of Delta Chi fraternity and worked alongside his family at Idora Park, creating many lasting memories and friendships.

Above all, Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who cherished time spent with his family.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Marilee Hird of Poland; his sons, Robert (Lisa) Hird of Boardman and Michael (Nichole) Hird of New Middletown; his cherished grandchildren, Lily, Ellis, Nick and Noah; his brother, John “Jack” Hird of Poland Township; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, William “Boyd” Hird, Edward “Kook” Hird, Howard “Howie” Hird and Donald “Donny” Hird; and his sister, Virginia “Sis” Hird.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at Select Specialty Hospital for the compassionate care and support they provided to Bob during his illness.

A celebration of life will be 4 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2026, at his son Bob’s home, 104 Newport Drive, Boardman, OH 44512.
