PEORIA, Arizona -- Mary Ann Smith, 94, of Peoria, Arizona, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
Born on Dec. 14, 1931, in Youngstown, Mary Ann was the daughter of Lawrence and Mary Metzinger.
Mary Ann attended South High School, and would go on to earn her LPN working under the mentorship of doctors at South and North Side Hospitals. She dedicated over 50 years to her nursing career, including over 20 years with Hospice of the Valley, touching countless lives with her compassion and professionalism.
Mary Ann had a larger than life personality, quick wit and a generous heart. Her faith in Jesus was a source of comfort and unconditional love.
She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a loyal friend and could make a stranger feel like family. She enjoyed road trips and going to casinos, never having an issue finding someone to tag along. It was always an adventure.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Kwiecien; second husband, Allen Smith; two sons, Michael Kwiecien and Kent Smith; five sisters, Mary Kwiecien, Henrietta Carelly, Stella Zayac, Anna Kucharski and Dolly Varone; and three brothers, Edward, Junior and Henry Kwiecien.
She is survived by three sisters, Susan Waldo, Martha Enlow and Audrey Kwiecien; two sons, John Kwiecien and Mark Smith; three daughters, Robin Jones, Linda (Thomas) Kappelmann and Mary Sue Anderson; five grandchildren, Stephanie Pisarski, Beau Pisarski, Nicholas Kappelmann, Samantha (Kyle) Bandy and Edward Anderson; six great-grandchildren, Justice, Adonis, Kylee, Hailey, Sloane and Logan; along with many other family and friends who will deeply miss her.
