Josephine DelSignore George 1941-2026

HUDSON — Josephine DelSignore George, 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born April 17, 1941, in Sulmona, Italy, Josephine immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island at the age of 7 with her father, Arthur DelSignore, joining her mother, Irma, and brother, Anthony, who had arrived earlier. Growing up in Campbell, she embraced the opportunities her parents sought for their family while remaining deeply proud of her Italian heritage.

She met the love of her life, John William “Bill” George, while he was playing in a band at Idora Park in Youngstown. They married in August 1964 and shared more than six decades of love, partnership and unwavering devotion. Together they built their home in Poland, where they raised their two children before later moving closer to family in Hudson.

Josephine’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and “Nonna” whose love was expressed not through grand gestures but through quiet acts of service every day. She created a home filled with warmth, stability and unconditional love. While Bill pursued many business ventures over the years, Josephine was the family’s steady foundation, providing the practical wisdom, financial stewardship and unwavering support that kept the family secure through every season of life.

To her grandchildren, Julia, Jessica, Kristen, Carson and John Michael, she was simply “Nonna,” a title she cherished. She delighted in their visits, treasured their stories and never missed an opportunity to tell them, “Ti Amo,” Italian for “I love you.” Those words became her signature farewell and remain one of her family’s most treasured memories.

Josephine was an extraordinary cook whose homemade pasta sauce and Italian wedding soup became beloved family traditions. She was also a voracious reader, devouring thousands of books over her lifetime, especially science fiction and historical fiction. Deeply curious, fiercely loyal and remarkably unselfish, she found joy in caring for others. She was also known for speaking her mind with honesty and conviction, qualities that endeared her to those who knew and loved her.

She had a gift for friendship and for making people feel welcome wherever life took her. Whether among lifelong friends, neighbors or temporary roommates during hospital and rehabilitation stays, Josephine formed lasting connections through kindness, humor and genuine interest in others.

Josephine is survived by her beloved husband, John William “Bill” George; her daughter, Michele Kuhrt (Todd); her son, William George (Tracy); and her cherished grandchildren, Julia Green (Bailey), Jessica Fortenberry (Bryant), Kristen Kuhrt, Carson Kuhrt and John Michael Kuhrt.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur DelSignore; her mother, Irma DelSignore; and her brother, Anthony DelSignore.

Josephine came to America as a little girl with hope, courage and the promise of a better future. She never sought recognition or attention for herself. Instead, she quietly devoted her life to building something far more lasting: a strong marriage, a loving family, enduring friendships and opportunities for generations that followed. She didn’t come from much, but she built amazing lives.

And as she said countless times to those she loved, Ti Amo.
