James H. Allender 1944-2026

MINERAL RIDGE — James H. Allender, 81, passed away Monday evening, June 29, 2026.

He was born July 13, 1944, in Warren and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

Jim worked for many years at the General Motors Assembly plant in Lordstown before retiring in 2008. He was a member of Crossroads Church, where he served as an usher and volunteered in many capacities, including his work with the food bank.

Jim enjoyed gardening and was an avid fan of the Cleveland sports teams and Ohio State University. His wife, the former Deborah Gomsi, whom he married June 4, 1973, passed away Aug. 5, 2024.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Perry (Dawn Butcher) Allender of Holland Patent, New York; his daughter, Rebecca Fisher of Warren; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife and his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, William “Sonny” Allender, and two sisters, Ruby Johnson and Betty Mehle.

A memorial service to honor Jim’s life will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Crossroads Church, 554 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, with Pastor Dave Watkins officiating.
