Doris E. Turnovsky 1930-2026

BOARDMAN — Doris Elaine Turnovsky went home to the Lord in the same way she lived life — on her own terms — when she died Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the age of 95 years and 11 months, while resting comfortably in her recliner at her daughter’s home.

God granted Doris a ministry taking care of children. She started early in life watching her younger brothers and sisters. She then volunteered at a pediatric wing of a hospital. After nurturing her own three children, she began babysitting for the many young people who fondly called her “Mrs. T.” Doris also cared for the elderly.

Doris enjoyed many pleasures in life. One of those was interacting with the Tiffany Square Chick-fil-A crew that prepared her favorite meal of chicken minis, hash browns and a Coke. She loved talking with the crew and really appreciated the Chick-fil-A cow they sent her when she was in the hospital.

She also was very competitive and liked to brag about how she only had 10,000 steps on her fitness watch before 9 a.m. She had an extended family at the Boardman-Davis YMCA, where she would exercise at 5:30 a.m.

Doris was a member of Poland Presbyterian Church. In her earlier years, she worked with the Logos youth group and ran the nursery on Sunday mornings.

Doris is survived by her loving children, Bonnie (Brad) Dutton, Terence Turnovsky and Gordon (Joanne) Turnovsky; as well as grandchildren, Naomi and Dartanyan; great-grandson, K-Jo; and great-great granddaughter, Kae’Lahni. She is fondly remembered by her remaining sibling, Charles Carraway. Doris’ memory will be cherished by her good friend and “adopted daughter of the heart,” Kathy Hevener.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jesse and Mamie Carraway; her husband, Otto Turnovsky Jr.; and her beloved granddaughter, Elaine F. Dutton. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: brothers, Bill Carraway, Johnny Carraway, Durwood Carraway and Clinton Carraway; and sisters, Gladys Stephens, Essie Chapman, Fannie Carraway and Elizabeth “Ann” Hingst.

The family wishes to thank Southern Care Hospice and the excellent nurses who helped bring mom comfort in her final weeks.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512, with calling hours beginning at 9 a.m. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Paul Anderson of Poland Presbyterian Church.
