Anthony L. Gaglione III 1941-2026

WILLOUGHBY — Anthony Leonard “Tony” Gaglione III, 85, formerly of Youngstown, passed away Friday morning, June 26, 2026.

Tony lived life with a big smile, a quick wit and a way of making everyone feel welcome. Whether you knew him for years or had just met him, Tony had a knack for making people laugh and enjoy the moment. He will be remembered for his hard work, his friendships and above all, the love he had for his family.

Born May 11, 1941, in Youngstown, Tony was the son of Anthony Gaglione Jr. and Edith Agnes Marsch Gaglione. Proud of his roots on the East Side of Youngstown and his Italian heritage, he remained deeply connected to his family throughout his life, keeping close relationships even with second and third cousins.

Tony graduated from East High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Army from February 1960 until April 1962. While stationed in Hawaii and the Philippines, tragedy struck when his father passed away. At just 20 years old, Tony returned home to take over the family restaurant and bar, the Blue Jay Inn.

Alongside his lifelong friend, Anthony Cicchi, and business partner, Edward Cronin, Tony owned and operated several local establishments, including one of Youngstown’s most beloved gathering places, Tony’s Hideaway. He later built a successful career in construction and land development. He remained active in business until retiring just a few years ago after selling Starr Centre Plaza.

On Nov. 16, 1984, Tony married the love of his life, the former Gail Bierdman, with whom he shared countless memories, adventures and joy.

Tony’s first passion was hunting and fishing, creating memories on countless trips with his son, sons-in-law, grandchildren, cousins and friends. Summers were highlighted by unforgettable Fourth of July parties during the 1990s that brought together family, neighbors and friends for food, laughter and celebration.

He also enjoyed making homemade wine alongside his friend, Anthony DeGeorge, proudly entering their creations into local competitions. At home, he loved working on puzzles with his daughters, was an avid reader and spent countless Sundays cheering for the Cleveland Browns. Even at the casino, Tony had an uncanny ability to turn strangers at the card table into friends before the night was over.

Tony was a devoted member of St. Jude Parish in Columbiana and the Mahoning Valley Duck Club.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gail Bierdeman Gaglione; his children, TJ Gaglione (Rochelle); Michelle DeRose (John), Karen Markulin (Dave), Renee Oddo (Vinnie), Dana Moses (Norm) and Gabrielle Sabatino (Michael). He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Joey, Bryan, Alexandra, Adrianna, Carlie, Michael M., Anthony, Santino, Mya, Sienna, Michael S. and Mariah; and four great-grandchildren, Mia, Maverick, Sophia and Sloane, with another great-grandchild expected soon. Tony is also survived by his brother-in-law, Leonard Schwenneker; sister-in-law, Debbie Bierdeman; brothers-in-law, Mark Bierdeman (Cindy), Brad Bierdeman (Becky), and John Bierdeman (Ginger); and countless cousins, hunting partners and dear friends whose lives were brighter because they knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Rosanne Schwenneker; his lifelong best friend, Anthony Cicchi; his mother-in-law, Sally Bierdeman; his brother-in-law, Tom Bierdeman; and his son-in-law, Vinnie Oddo.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown. There are no calling hours. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church.

Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, where military honors will be performed by the great men and women of Ellsworth VFW Post 9571.

Tony believed the best parts of life were meant to be shared with family, friends, good food and good conversation. He worked hard, cared deeply about the people around him and was always ready with a story or a laugh. His family hopes he’ll be remembered not only for what he did but also for the way he lived. In his honor, gather with the people you love, share a good story, raise a glass and enjoy the time you have together.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the charity or nonprofit organization of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman. Family and friends may visit www.rossisantuccifh.com to view this obituary and share condolences with Tony’s family.
