Alan A. Anderson 1938-2026
MARTINSBURG, W. Va. — Alan Arthur Anderson, 88, was born May 19, 1938, in Youngstown and passed away peacefully Monday, June 29, 2026, at Celebration Villa in Martinsburg, under the compassionate care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Hilda Anderson of Canfield; his son, Robert “Bobby” Michael Anderson of Berlin Center; and his sister, Helen L. Joseph of Chesapeake, Virginia.
Alan is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Helen “Joan” Anderson; his son, Edward (Ronda) Anderson of Martinsburg; his sister, Gloria Gibbs of Youngstown; his grandchildren, Amanda (Sean) of Penn Valley, California, Kyle (Lindsey) of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and Ella Anderson of Columbus; two great-grandchildren in Wisconsin; his stepgrandchildren, Nathan (Tonya) Grove and Becca Thomas, both of Martinsburg; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends in Ohio and Virginia.
Alan proudly served his country in the United States Army. Throughout his career, he held a variety of sales and purchasing positions in New York and Ohio before becoming the owner and operator of Anderson Custom Kitchens and Alpine Custom Barns, businesses he successfully operated alongside his wife, Joan, for more than 30 years. Following his retirement in 2000, Alan and Joan enjoyed traveling together, taking memorable trips and cruises to Alaska, Hawaii and throughout the Caribbean. In 2021, they relocated to Martinsburg to be closer to their son.
On June 18, 2026, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
A devout Christian, Alan was a longtime member of Berlin Center United Methodist Church before moving to Martinsburg in 2021, where he attended Pikeside United Methodist Church. He was also a longtime member of Argus Masonic Lodge No. 545 in Canfield and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Alan will be remembered for his unwavering faith, strong work ethic, love of family and the kindness and generosity he shared with everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and in the family he loved so deeply.
A private memorial service and celebration of Alan’s life will be held at a later date.
