Shirley A. Wilson 1935-2026

Together again

YOUNGSTOWN – Shirley A. Wilson, 90, of Cornersburg, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Hospice House.

Shirley was born Sept. 25, 1935, a daughter of Fred and Mary Elizabeth Prelog Swartz.

She was a proud graduate of Boardman High School.

On July 17, 1954, Shirley married Dominic Wilson, and they raised two daughters while making their home in Cornersburg. Together, they enjoyed opportunities to travel for 54 years until Dominic’s passing May 24, 2008.

In addition to being a proud homemaker, Shirley was a water safety instructor and swim coach at the YMCA of Youngstown and a Red Cross volunteer, and was often seen at craft shows with Jones & Associates Embroidery.

An avid reader, Shirley loved a good Danielle Steel book. Above all, Shirley’s greatest joy was being with her family.

She enjoyed summer picnics, family holidays in the dining room and the traditional first day of school donut party.

She is survived by her two daughters, Diane (William) Jones of Austintown and Linda Sankey of Canfield; her beloved grandchildren, Paul (Carrie) Jones of North Canton, John (Julie) Jones of Austintown, Diane (Jonathan) Clark of Volant, Pa., and Megan (Antonio) Rusu of Kent.

She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Zoe (fiance Riley Gent) and Henry Jones, and Wade and Katey Clark.

Shirley is also survived by her sister, Thelma (Robert) Loudin of Granger, Indiana; her brother, Fred (Rhonda) Swartz of New Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Doris Rock and Donna Mae Swartz; her brother, Harry Hopes; and her beloved grandson, Thomas Sankey.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Health and Hospice House for their wonderful care and compassion, specifically Dr. Scott Agnew, Marsia Manna (PA) and Dr. Rahul Sinha.

Following Shirley’s wishes, private services were held for the family.

Memorial tributes may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Family and friends may visit www.foxfuneralhome.org, to view this obituary and to give condolences to the Wilson family.
