Rosemarie Mitchell 1932-2026
HUBBARD — Rosemarie Mitchell, 94, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 25, 2026, at The Addison of Cornersburg in Youngstown. She was a longtime resident of Hubbard.
Known for her bright sense of humor, remarkable resilience, and unwavering kindness, Rosemarie lived life with an upbeat attitude and was famous for keeping a warm smile on her face.
Born in 1932 in Hermitage, Pa., (where Rosemary Lane is named in her honor) she was the daughter of the late Julius and Emilia Christy.
She graduated from Hickory High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Seton Hill College, before a career as a teacher at Hubbard High School.
She chose to leave teaching to focus on raising her family, a role she cherished deeply. To her sons’ dismay, she was a frequent substitute teacher of the most dreaded kind, one who would insist on teaching rather than just giving her students a free day.
Rosemarie later returned to school to earn a master’s degree from Youngstown State University, leading to a fulfilling second career as Director of Admissions at John XXIII Nursing Facility in Hermitage.
An exceptional cook and baker, Rosemarie loved preparing meals and bringing people together around the table. Her bookshelves strained with years’ worth of back issues of Gourmet magazine, and she was as ready to try something new as she was to produce family favorites from Romania.
Rosemarie was a longtime member of the Progressive Club and a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Hubbard. She was also a tireless supporter of her community, who lent her time and talents to numerous local organizations, serving as a key organizer for the local Red Cross blood bank, the Friends of the Hubbard Public Library and the schools’ adult continuing education program. In retirement, she also enjoyed volunteering her time at the Ronald McDonald House and The Butler Institute of American Art.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of more than 65 years, William Mitchell. Her memory will be forever treasured by her three sons, Robert (Joan) Mitchell of Minneapolis, James Mitchell of New York and John (Abigail) Mitchell of Washington, D.C. She is also survived by her sister, Emilie Christy of New York.
Rosemarie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George Christy.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial, with the Very Reverend Michael D. Balash officiating, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Hubbard.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home.
Family and friends are invited to visit the funeral home’s website at www.stewart-kyle.com to share memories and condolences.
