Ronald J. Bishop 1927-2026

AUSTINTOWN -- Ronald J. Bishop, 98, passed away peacefully Friday evening, June 12, 2026, at Hospice House, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born Aug. 5, 1927, in Farrell, Pa., Ron was the son of the late Joseph and Sophie Pyzhnarcik Bishop.

He graduated from Farrell High School in 1945 and went on to proudly serve his country. Ron spent two years as a U.S. merchant marine and served for two years in the U.S. Army infantry during the Korean War.

Ron built a dedicated career in manufacturing. He worked at Westinghouse Electric in Sharon for 11 years, then went on to work at McKay Machine Co. and Wean United, where he worked until his retirement in 1991.

A devout man of faith, Ron was a deeply active member of St. Joseph Church in Austintown. He was a charter member of the Men's Club, served faithfully as a Mass usher and dedicated his time as an adult leader for the Boy Scouts at St. Joseph and the Austintown Saxon Club. He treasured his church community and held a deep, lifelong love for his family and friends. Ron lived life to the fullest.

He thoroughly enjoyed family celebrations, traveling, beach vacations and ocean cruises. An avid golfer and swimmer, he was perhaps best known for his green thumb, taking immense pride in tending to his beautiful dahlias and sunflowers. He also looked forward to trips to Atlantic City, where he loved walking the boardwalk and testing his luck gambling alongside his son-in-law, Phil.

Ronald J. Bishop is survived by his loving family, including his son Randy Bishop and granddaughter Brittany; his son Brian Bishop, his wife Sue, and grandson Jason; and his daughter Annette Pezzuto and her husband Phil, granddaughter Patricia and her husband Eric, and great-grandchildren Dominic and Ava.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia, with whom he shared a beautiful and devoted marriage of 49 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother Frank, and his sisters Anne, Kay, Cecelia, Magdeline, Helen, Pauline, Sophie and Martha.

Family and friends may pay their respects 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home (www.vaschakkirilafh.com/obituary/Ronald-Bishop), 3100 Canfield Road, Youngstown, OH 44511.

A Mass of Catholic Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Blaise Parish-St. Joseph Church in Austintown.

The family requests that material tributes be made in Ron's memory to Hospice House on Sharrott Road in gratitude for the loving, peaceful care they provided in his final days. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home.

Ron loved traveling, beach vacations, ocean cruises, golfing, swimming, and especially gardening. He loved his dahlias and sunflowers. He also enjoyed many vacations to Atlantic City and loved spending time on the boardwalk and gambling with his son-in-law, PJ.

Ron leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Randal Bishop, Brian (Susan) Bishop and Annette (Phillip) Pezzuto; he also leaves his grandchildren, Patricia, Brittany and Jason; and great-grandchildren, Dominic and Ava.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia, with whom he celebrated 49 years of marriage; his parents; and his brother and sisters, Anne, Kay, Cecelia, Magdeline, Helen, Pauline, Sophie, Martha and Frank.

Friends and family may call 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, 3100 Canfield Road, Youngstown, OH 44511, with a Mass of Catholic Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Blaise Parish-St. Joseph Church, Austintown.

Donations can be made to Hospice House on Sharrott Road, which took care of Ron lovingly and peacefully.

Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home handled all of the arrangements for the family.
