Ronald F. Baker 1943-2026

POLAND — Ronald Frederick Baker, 83, formerly of Liberty Township, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Shepherd of the Valley, Poland.

Ron was born March 3, 1943, in Youngstown, the son of Frederick and Mildred Wilson Baker.

Ron was a 1961 graduate of Hubbard High School. He then went on to work as a project estimator for Wean United for 22 years and Fab Art for 15 years. Ron always worked two jobs, so while working full time he also worked as a movie theater projectionist for Elm Road Drive-In, Eastwood Mall Theater and Regal Boulevard Theater.

He was a devoted member of Churchill United Methodist Church in Liberty Township, where he would usher and cut grass for the church. He later attended services at Shepherd of the Valley.

Ron was savvy with computers, camcorders, cameras, ham radio and 8mm video films. He also had a zest for adventure with motorcycles, dirt bikes, swimming and driving across the country on vacations.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years, Dora L. Bigalow Baker, whom he married Feb. 20, 1965; his children, Scott (Lori) Baker and Colleen (Anthony) Marshall; his grandchildren, Sam Baker, Alex Baker, Morgan Marshall (fiancee, Cameron Maloney) and Anthony Marshall Jr., (fiancee, Emily Boyarko); brother, Rick (Lisa) Baker; and sister-in-law, Rose Baker.

Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Baker.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Blackstone Funeral Home, where the family will receive relatives and friends from noon until the time of service.

Ron will be laid to rest in Churchill Cemetery immediately following the service.

The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, any monetary contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Ron’s honor.
