Robert A. Diss 1961-2026

BOARDMAN — Robert Anthony “Tony” Diss, 64, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the Cleveland Clinic from post-surgery complications following lung cancer surgery with his loving, devoted wife and family by his side.

Having grown up mostly in Kent in the 1970s, Tony was a fierce protector of those he loved.

He’s survived by “the girl of his dreams,” his wife of 26 years, Charlotte Frketich Diss; treasured pets, Louie and Tippy; brothers, Patrick Diss, Rick (Annette) McMullen and David (Darcy) McMullen; sister, Michelle (Dan) Ningard; nieces, Sarah Minnicks, Angela Barr and Christine (John) Gulgas; cousin, Willis “Billy” (Bekie) Thomas; and other relatives.

Tony was preceded in death by his father, Bob; stepmother, Diane; mother, Trecia; brothers, Jeff, Byron and Bobby Lee; and a number of beloved pets, including his talking parrot, Groucho.

Tony’s interest in magic started at age 7 and he turned pro at 21, becoming a professional magician, “The Amazing & Amusing Magic of Tony Diss.” His work history also included years of excelling in the printing industry before becoming an entrepreneur, owning Boardman Hypnotherapy and teaching / certifying others in the field.

With a big heart, Tony’s passions and skills included fishing; poker; shooting pool & darts; woodworking; cooking; magic; besting the casinos; traveling; and fine dining.

He was an incredible host. He truly loved having family and friends over for holidays and summer cookouts, of which there were many.

Our Tony, an 18-year cancer survivor, was a fragile soul who loved helping his menagerie of rescue pets, his neighbors, his family and his friends.

He was truly admired and loved by everyone he had the pleasure of knowing. The love, respect and closeness Tony and Charlotte had for each other can be described as an ocean — endless, powerful and deeper than it looks.

A private celebration of Tony’s life is being held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Edward J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman. Family and friends may visit www.foxfuneralhome.org to view this obituary and to give condolences to the family.
