Joann Agler 1936-2026
AUSTINTOWN — Joann “Joan” Agler, 89, of Austintown, passed away Thursday morning, June 4, 2026, at Hospice House in Poland.
Joan was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Seward, Pa., a daughter of the late Bruce and Anna Smith Sharp.
She graduated from Chaney High School in 1954 and also earned her cosmetology certification from Choffin Career Center.
In her younger years, Joan volunteered as a candy striper, before beginning her career at Packard Electric, where she worked for more than 30 years as a quality control inspector, retiring in 1997.
Joan was a member of the Youngstown Saxon Club and St. Croatian Lodge No. 66. She was also a founding board member of the Austintown Girls Softball League, demonstrating her commitment to the community and local youth.
Joan enjoyed ceramics, cake decorating, and flower arranging. Above all, she was known by her family as a wonderful cook who brought loved ones together around her table.
Joan leaves to cherish her memory her children, Vicki Agler of Canfield, Robert (Sharon) Agler of Austintown, Kathy Toth of Canfield and Jimmy (Tammy) Agler of North Jackson; six grandchildren, Kim (Joe), Craig (Casey), Aaron (Danielle), Garrett, Brandi (Jake) and Johnny; five great-grandchildren, Joey, Dom, Bryson, Emerson and Benny; her sister, Kathleen (Roger) Hatcher of Struthers; and her sister-in-law, Becky Sharp of Michigan.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her son, Tommy Agler; her son-in-law, Tom Toth; her brothers, Gene Sharp and Bruce Sharp; her sister-in-law, Audrey Sharp; and her companion of 25 years, John Ples.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday, at Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m.
