Hans G. Anderson 1938-2026

NORTH JACKSON — Hans G. Anderson, 87, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

Hans was born Sept. 21, 1938, in Youngstown, the son of Nils and Marie Anderson.

He lived a life marked by hard work, dedication to family, service to his country and a passion for racing.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Hans honorably served his country before returning home to build a successful career and business.

For more than 50 years, he owned and operated Anderson Appliance Center in North Jackson, where he became well known and respected throughout the community for his integrity, craftsmanship and commitment to serving his customers.

Outside of work, Hans had a lifelong love of drag racing. A talented builder and driver, he designed, built and raced his own dragsters, including those he proudly named The Golden Chariot. Among his many accomplishments on the track, one of his Vega race cars exceeded 160 mph in the quarter-mile. He was a familiar face at local tracks, including Quaker City Motorsports Park, where he enjoyed competing and sharing his enthusiasm for the sport with fellow racers and friends.

Above all, Hans cherished his family and the many memories they created together throughout the years.

Hans leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Carol Anderson; his sons, Eric (Janet) Anderson and Ernest (Sheila) Anderson; his stepson, Mike Shepse; his grandchildren, Alexis and Evan Anderson; and his sister, Donna Gustbeth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nils and Marie Anderson.

Hans will be remembered for his strong work ethic, adventurous spirit, mechanical ingenuity and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. His legacy lives on through the business he built, the lives he touched and the memories he created both on and off the racetrack.

Family and friends may call 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 19, with a service immediately following, at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave.
