Gladys M. Martin 1947-2026

Gladys was born Feb. 23, 1947, in Yatesboro, Pa., a daughter of the late Clarence and Esther Burdziak Hirth, and came to the Youngstown area as a child.

She was a 1965 graduate of Chaney High School and later graduated from the Choffin School of Nursing as a licensed practical nurse.

Gladys worked as an LPN for 44 years at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital before she retired.

She attended St. Mary Church in Mineral Ridge and enjoyed arts and crafts, attending craft shows and visiting the casinos. Most of all, Gladys treasured the friendships she shared with those closest to her.

Gladys is survived by her sister, Phyllis Nye of McDonald; her sister-in-law, Donna Bodajlo of Niles; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, especially Helen Green and Shirley Hull, who held a special place in her heart.

Her husband of nearly 37 years, George F. Martin, whom she married Sept. 6, 1974, died June 11, 2011.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m.

Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Gladys will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

In lieu of flowers, Gladys’ family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County, 812 Youngstown Kingsville Road, SE Vienna, OH 44473.
