Donald T. Heid 1940-2026

BOARDMAN — Donald Thomas Heid, 85, passed away peacefully Friday morning, June 12, 2026, after a courageous cancer battle, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born Dec. 24, 1940, in Youngstown, Don was the son of William and Theresa McNally Heid and remained a lifelong resident of the Mahoning Valley.

He graduated from Ursuline High School in 1958, where he excelled on the football field and formed many lifelong friendships.

Don proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged Feb. 6, 1961.

A man of strong faith and community spirit, he was a member of the Catholic faith and belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles on South Avenue, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

An avid sports enthusiast, Don enjoyed following the Savannah Bananas and cheering for his favorite teams, the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes and Notre Dame. He loved watching classic Westerns, especially those starring John Wayne, and had a lifelong passion for golf and dirty martinis. Above all, Don treasured time spent with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.

On Sept. 19, 1964, Don married the love of his life, Patricia “Pat” M. Kenney. Together they shared more than 53 wonderful years of marriage before her passing Feb. 3, 2018.

Don leaves behind his loving sons, Bill (Shari) Heid of Poland and Brian Heid of Augusta, Georgia; his grandchildren, Will Jr. (Olivia) Heid and Shelbi Heid; his great-grandchildren, Nash and Nola Heid; his step-grandchildren, Mario and Mya Caggiano; his sister, Rosemary (Don) Sicafuse; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who will cherish his memory.

In addition to his beloved wife, Pat, Don was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary Heid.

Family and friends may pay their respects 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2026, and 10 until 10:55 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.

A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with Father John Jerek officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Don’s name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514.

Don will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to his country, his love of sports and golf, and the kindness and friendship he shared with all who knew him.
