Carmela Vendetti 1943-2026

POLAND — Carmela “Corky” Vendetti, 82, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 11, 2026, after a long struggle with illness.

Corky was born Oct. 11,1943, in Youngstown, the “middle” daughter of the late Leo and Josephine Briglio Buffone.

She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and worked for 35 years at Hill, Barth and King as an “award-winning” statistical typist. Speed and accuracy were her hallmarks.

Corky was an exceptional dancer and “jitterbug” queen. She was a regular on “45 Hop,” a local teen dance television show. She collected many victories in dance competitions throughout the Youngstown area. Corky was a “collector” and loved to shop. She studied fashion and took great pride in her clothing and her jewelry. She was proud of her Italian heritage.

She married Richard Vendetti Sr. on May 1, 1965, at St. Luke Church. Corky and Richard started dating in high school, and they were married more than 56 years. He was the love of her life. They traveled the world together, and he treated her like a queen. Sadly, Richard passed away in 2021.

Corky is survived by her son, Richard D. (Marcie) Vendetti of Austintown and daughter, Carla (Anthony) Santangelo of Boardman. She leaves her two beloved grandchildren, whom she adored, Sammy and Lola Santangelo. Corky’s sisters were a lifeline to her. She is survived by Anna (Joe) Rossetti, Linda (Jim) Sutman and Leona (Mike) Crogan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Georgia Greenawalt of Petersburg, and many nieces and nephews who Corky greatly admired.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Vendetti Sr., and her sister-in-law, Joann Vendetti-Bunosky.

The Vendetti family would like to extend a special, heartfelt thank you to the staff members at both Glenellen Assisted Living and St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Family and friends may call 10 to 11:50 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2026, followed by a funeral service at noon at Fox Funeral Home, Boardman.
