Walter Chmielewski 1937-2026
POLAND — Walter Chmielewski, known to family and friends as “Wally” or “Yokum,” passed away Friday, May 1, 2026, in Ohio, at the age of 89.
Born Jan. 24, 1937, in Youngstown, he was the son of Walter and Barbara Chmielewski.
Walter graduated from South High School in Youngstown and served in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Following his service to his country, Walter built a long career in the railroad industry. He worked as a brakeman for Conrail and CSX Railroads, where he was respected for his reliability, strong work ethic and dedication to the job.
Family was central to Walter’s life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Peters Chmielewski, whose memory remained close to his heart. Together, they shared a life built on love, companionship and enduring commitment.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Chmielewski (Greg Hymes) and Lori Ciccone and her husband, Ron, all of Struthers.
The family would like to thank Laura, Jeff, Candy, Tina and all of the staff at The Inn at Poland Way for their wonderful facility and care.
