Silvia Abbattista LaRocca 1942-2026
BOARDMAN — Silvia Abbattista LaRocca 83, passed away peacefully Monday, May 11, 2026.
Born Oct. 7, 1942, in Molfetta, Italy, to the late Mario and Giovanna Abbattista.
Silvia came to the United States at the age of 16. She grew into a woman defined by strength, resilience and quiet determination — qualities that shaped her life and guided her family for decades.
She was a devoted mother whose love extended across generations. Her steady presence, unwavering support and deep commitment to family created a foundation her loved ones will carry forward with gratitude.
She embodied the values of her generation: hard work, humility, loyalty and deep compassion. Silvia spent most of her life in the Youngstown area where she shared her love for cooking at several area restaurants. Her homemade bread, pizza and pasta — prepared with unmistakable passion — became cherished traditions among family and friends.
Silvia also enjoyed gardening and celebrating her Italian heritage. As an active member of the Italian American club, she found joy in sharing culture, food and fellowship with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Lenny Abbattista; brothers-in-law, Vito Minervini, Anthony Cook and Joseph DeLuco.
She is survived by her husband of 63 blessed years, Nicolino LaRocca; her sisters, Sabina Cook and Irene Minervini; her brother, Tony (Nancy) Abbattista; her children, Dominic (Liz) LaRocca, Angie (James) Mikesell, Mario (Candice) LaRocca, Michael (Michelle) LaRocca and Linda (Chris) Wells; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
