Robert Sammartino 1956-2026
AUSTINTOWN — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert “Sammy” Sammartino, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the age of 70.
Born Jan. 2, 1956, in Youngstown, he built a life centered around family, hard work and fun. He will be remembered for his warm smile, hilarious storytelling and infectious laugh.
Sammy was a loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend whose kindness, strength and sense of humor touched everyone who knew him. He loved boating, cars and sports, especially the Michigan State Spartans, where he played football after graduating from Cardinal Mooney High School.
He went on to receive a business degree from Northwood University and retired from General Motors, where he worked in quality control for 32 years.
Some of his happiest moments were spent with his kids, grandkids and his best friends, who were like brothers to him. He was a giant of a man and a fierce protector of those he loved, always there for the people who mattered most to him.
Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the memories, love and lessons he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman. Family and friends are encouraged to offer prayers for the family by visiting the Book of Memories at www.rossifunerals.com.
