Robert J. Hamrock Sr. 1942-2026

AUSTINTOWN — Robert J. Hamrock Sr., 84, passed away Friday afternoon, May 15, 2026, surrounded by his family at Hospice House in Poland.

He was born March 4, 1942, in Youngstown, the son of Joseph and Mary Sonoga Hamrock. Bob attended St. Matthias Elementary School in Youngstown and was a 1960 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He worked as a union carpenter for Local 171 for 30 years. He then went on to work for the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority for 10 years prior to retiring in 2004.

Robert married the former Catherine E. Cavucci on July 8, 1961. Together they shared 59 years of marriage and many happy memories. She preceded him in death Feb. 4, 2021.

Bob was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Austintown. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed fishing and playing the guitar. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, to whom he was very devoted.

Bob was a kind, loving husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his five children, Dorothy Workman of Austintown, Kim (Robert) Suchora of Murrysville, Pa., Rhonda (David) Wilhelm of Boardman, Robert Jr. (Carla) Hamrock of Austintown and Melissa (Vince) Fiore of Canton. He also leaves behind a sister, Elizabeth (William) Tassian of Youngstown; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Lisa Mumford.

Private funeral services have taken place. He was laid to rest next to his beloved wife in Green Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Canfield.

Bob’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to nurse Jackie at AKESO Hospice for all of her kind and compassionate care through his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that a Mass be offered or a contribution be made to your local church or a church of your choice in Bob’s memory.
