Philip Chavez 1934-2026
BOARDMAN — Philip Chavez, 92, entered his eternal home Monday, Feb. 16, 2026.
Philip was born Jan. 17, 1934, in Youngstown, a son of Jorge “George” and Eliza Castillo Chavez, who welcomed him into their ever-growing family.
Before graduating from The Rayen School, Philip enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and proudly served his country. Following his naval service, he made his home in both the Chicago and Youngstown areas.
Phil worked at General Motors in Lordstown. During his years in Chicago, he was employed by Zenith, National Power Rodding and Krammel Milk. After retiring, Phil returned to the family home in Boardman, though he often made trips back to Chicago to enjoy friendly poker games with longtime friends.
Known affectionately as “Uncle Phil” or “Phillie,” he treasured family gatherings, playing cards with friends and loved ones, and cheering on his longtime favorite teams, the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
Philip is survived by his brother, Henry (Lorna) Chavez of Southington; four sisters, Josephine (Bill) Martinez of San Antonio, Texas, Amelia (Stephen) Stefanoff and Carmen Chavez, both of Austintown, and Sister Petra Chavez of Tiffin; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
