Maria Marczyszyn 1946-2026

YOUNGSTOWN — Maria Antonczak Marczyszyn, 79, joined the Lord on Thursday morning, April 30, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 21, 1946, in Germany, Maria was the daughter of the late Fedor and Anna Antonczak. At the age of 7, she immigrated to the United States with her family and was raised in Niles, where her faith and values were deeply rooted.

On Nov. 25, 1967, Maria was united in the Holy Mystery of Matrimony to her beloved husband, Stefan Marczyszyn. Together, they built a loving home in Youngstown, grounded in faith, devotion and family. Stefan fell asleep in the Lord on Feb. 25, 2010.

Recently, Maria moved to Elizabeth City to be near her daughter.

A faithful servant of God, Maria was a devoted and active member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church. She lifted her voice in prayer through the church choir and humbly offered her time and talents in service to her parish, especially through the preparation of pyrohy. Her life was a reflection of her steadfast faith and she found great joy in worship, fellowship and acts of kindness.

Maria also found joy in the simple blessings of life. She loved dancing and was known for her lively spirit and warmth at gatherings, and she enjoyed sewing, creating with her hands and sharing her talents with those she loved.

She was a former member of the Ukrainian American Youth Association and the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America.

Maria is survived by her loving daughter, Anna Marczyszyn, with whom she made her home; and her brother, Russell Antonczak of Niles.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen Antonczak.

May her soul find rest in the eternal presence of our Lord, and may the perpetual light shine upon her. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit and loving heart.

Family and friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, where a funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. The Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m.

Interment will follow in Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown, where Maria will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Maria’s memory to Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 526 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown, OH 44502; or the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, 2759 N. Lipkey Road, North Jackson, OH 44451.
