Katherine Hurdley 1942-2026
AUSTINTOWN — Katherine Hurdley, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Select Specialty Hospital in Boardman.
Katherine was born Aug. 16, 1942, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Roland and Avanell Broderick MacDougall, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1960 graduate of Boardman High School and dedicated more than 40 years of service as a paraprofessional at Watson Elementary School before retiring in 2012.
A woman of deep faith, Katherine was a founding member of St. Joseph Church in Austintown and remained a devoted Catholic throughout her life. She quietly supported many charitable causes and was always generous with her prayers, encouragement and compassion for others.
Katherine was a member of the TOPS Club and the Young at Heart Group at Highway Tabernacle.
She enjoyed taking scenic car rides, traveling and visiting Mesopotamia. She also cherished her trips to Walt Disney World with her sons and their families, where many treasured memories were made together.
Katherine was rarely without a cup of coffee in hand and cherished the time she spent with those she loved most.
Katherine leaves to forever cherish her memory, her three sons, Jeffrey (Christine) Hurdley of Lancaster, Ken (Kathy) Hurdley of Canfield and Justin (Jessica) Hurdley of New Middletown; seven grandchildren, Caitlin (Alex) Parrish, Alanna (Greg) Bohurjak, Hannah Hurdley, Erin Gorgie, Kurt (Lindsay) Hurdley, Jack Hurdley and Henry Hurdley; three great-grandchildren, Nora, Molly and Luke; her siblings, Patricia Perry, Mark (Tina) MacDougall and Bob (Jolie) MacDougall; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
Her husband, Howard A. Hurdley, whom she married Aug. 31, 1963, passed away Jan. 19, 1996.
In addition to her husband and parents, Katherine was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Jobie MacDougall, and her brother-in-law, Charles Perry.
Family and friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, at St. Blaise Parish-St. Joseph Church, 4545 New Road, Austintown. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church.
Interment will follow in Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown, where Katherine will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
In lieu of flowers, Katherine’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
