George H. Demetrios 1948-2026

BOARDMAN — George H. Demetrios, 77, passed away Tuesday evening, April 28, 2026, at Shepherd of the Valley-Boardman, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family following a lengthy battle with COPD and lung cancer.

George was born Sept. 7, 1948, in Youngstown, a son of the late George and Mary Pavlechko Demetrios, and was a lifelong area resident.

He attended Chaney High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

George was employed at General Motors Lordstown for 30 years before retiring and was a longtime member of SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

He was also a member of Argus Lodge 545 F&AM in Canfield.

George found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed riding his bike through the neighborhood, often stopping to greet and pet every dog he encountered. A car enthusiast, he loved attending car shows, and he also enjoyed watching classic movies and, most especially, spending time with his family.

George leaves to forever cherish his memory his wife of nearly 51 years, Diane Illes Demetrios, whom he married July 6, 1975; his son, Nicholas (Lora) Demetrios; his three grandchildren, Delaney, Alex and Lily; his sister-in-law, Waltraud “Wallie” Demetrios; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie Demetrios; and his brother, Charles Demetrios.

Family and friends may gather to pay their respects 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, with a funeral service at 4 p.m.

George’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice of the Valley Hospice House, First Light Home Health Care and Shepherd of the Valley-Boardman for their kindness and compassionate care.
