NEW MIDDLETOWN – Eva J. Muntean Abbattista, born in Youngstown on Dec. 24, 1947, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. She was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Leonard Abbattista, who passed earlier this year, as well as her parents, John and Dora Muntean, who also preceded her in death.

Eva was a devoted homemaker whose greatest joy in life was caring for her family and home. She found happiness in cooking for the people she loved, spending treasured time with her grandchildren and enjoying trips to try her luck gambling. Her home and heart were always open and she made everyone feel welcome, cared for and loved.

She leaves behind her loving children, Mario (Renee) and Jenine (Dan); her cherished grandchildren, Mario Jr. (Emily), Maren (Michael) and Jacob; and many family members and friends who will forever hold her memory close. She also shared a special lifelong bond with her cousin, Dee Serra, who was truly like a sister to her.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Kayla and Michelle for the loving care, compassion and support they gave Eva. They became more than caregivers — they became family. The family would also like to thank Patriot Hospice for the compassionate care and comfort they provided during Eva’s final days.

Per Eva’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Her family will honor and celebrate her life privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Patriot Hospice in her memory.

Eva will be remembered for her warmth, strength, generosity and the unconditional love she gave so freely to everyone around her. Her memory will live on in every family gathering, every shared meal and every moment spent together.

“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.”
