Charles T. Slaven 1940-2026

VIENNA — Charles Ted Slaven, 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Charlie was born Oct. 23, 1940, in Youngstown, the son of the late Charles and Hazel Fleming Slaven.

He graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1958 and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Charlie returned to the Mahoning Valley and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Youngstown State University.

Charlie dedicated more than 30 years of his career to Nabisco (National Biscuit Company), where he worked as a sales representative until his retirement in 1995.

Charlie found great joy in the outdoors. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and tending to his vegetable gardens. He was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast, especially enjoying the daily newspaper puzzles. Charlie was also a lifelong and devoted fan of Cleveland Indians baseball. In addition, he enjoyed bowling and participated in several local leagues.

Above all, Charlie cherished the time he spent with his family.

Charlie will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 41 years, the former Patricia Anne Bezjak, whom he married April 27, 1985; his two daughters, Renee (Mark) Rush of Poland and Rachelle (Tim) Bizon of Brunswick; his three grandchildren, Charleah (Matt) Trombitas, Timmy Bizon and Ashley Bizon; his brother, Jarrett (Patsy) Slaven of Brandon, Florida; and his niece, Richelle (Tony) Jennings.

Family and friends may call 10 to 11:45 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2026, at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman. A funeral service will follow at noon Monday at the funeral home, with Father Edward Brienz officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Army following the service at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
