Vittoria A. D’Amato 1941-2026
YOUNGSTOWN — Vittoria Aurora D’Amato, “Vicky,” as she was called by family and friends, died Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at home of natural causes.
Vicky was born April 13, 1941, in Youngstown, the daughter of Nicolas and Giulia Maria D’Amato.
Vicky graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School and then had a long career working in the office of the Daily Legal News, among other office jobs throughout her life.
Vicky’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a dedicated Catholic, Vicky carried her beliefs not just in words but in action. She believed in the dignity of life and was deeply passionate and consistent about protecting it — whether it was protecting the unborn, rescuing animals or living her life as a vegetarian. Vicky gave faithfully, quietly and consistently to causes she believed in, especially those that supported the right to life. She was an active member of the Right to Life Organization since the early 1970s. Her compassion didn’t stop there. If you really wanted to understand Vicky’s heart, you only had to look at the cats she rescued and loved so dearly over the years.
She had a soft spot for animals, especially those in need, and she gave whatever she could to help them. Her kindness extended to the smallest, most vulnerable creatures, reflecting the same deep empathy she carried for people. Vicky stood firmly in what she believed, and she lived those beliefs out loud, every single day. She was strong, opinionated, generous and deeply caring all at once.
More than anything, Vicky loved her family and friends. She showed up in the ways that mattered — through conversations. She kept up with all of her nieces and nephews and distant relatives alike, and she prayed for them all daily. Vicky lived a life of conviction, faith and compassion. She stood firmly in what she believed, gave generously even when it wasn’t easy and loved deeply. That is how she will be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Motosko, Nilde Wolf and Sister Juliana D’Amato, O.P.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and grateful cats along West Warren Avenue in Youngstown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Mahoning County.
