Kevin M. Gura 1957-2026
BOARDMAN — Kevin M. Gura, 68, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, April 21, 2026, at his home surrounded by the love of his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Kevin was born Sept. 28, 1957, in Youngstown, a son of the late William and Olga Voytilla Gura, and was a lifelong area resident. He was raised in Campbell and was a proud graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, Class of 1975. He continued his education at Youngstown State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Kevin dedicated 30 years of service to Youngstown State University, working in the computer center until his retirement in 2008.
A man of deep faith, Kevin was a member of the former St. Brendan Church and, more recently, St. Angela Merici Church, where he shared his musical talents as a guitarist with the Sonshine Folk Choir for many years.
Kevin found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved playing guitar and listening to music and had a passion for roasting coffee, baking sourdough bread and making homemade pizza. He especially cherished time spent with his friends from YSU, gathering each month for their lunch club.
Kevin leaves to forever cherish his memory, his beloved companion and love of his life, Luann James; his son, Michael (Deborah) Gura of Boardman; his grandchildren, Joel and Claire Gura; his brother, Ken (Sandy) Gura of Poland; and his niece, Kendra Gura; Luann’s sons, Robert (Marcie) James of Beachwood and Eric (Amy) James of Alpena, Michigan; and Luann’s grandchildren, Siena and Isaac James, whom Kevin loved and cherished as his own; his cousins, especially Jena Minnie and her family and Beverly O’Leary; and countless friends, including special friends, Rocky and Mike Ray, and Cindy and Ray Novak.
