Joshua J. Potkay 1985-2026
YOUNGSTOWN — Joshua J. Potkay, 40, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 12, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his family, following a battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 1, 1985, in Youngstown, a son of Stanley J. and Patricia A. Conroy Potkay.
Josh was a 2004 graduate of Chaney High School and worked in the construction industry for many years.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, family gatherings, traveling, and reading and was a history buff.
He also enjoyed keeping up on current events and debating politics. Josh was an avid Cleveland sports fan and was also known as a very good cook. His greatest joy was spending quality time with his family and friends. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Josh is survived by his mother, Patricia, of Youngstown; and four siblings, Gretchen (Rex) Crawford of Austintown, Larissa (Ben) Jantson of Hanover, Pa., Joseph (Kelly) Potkay of North Canton and John (Christina Black) Potkay of Youngstown. He also leaves behind seven beloved nieces and nephews, Nick, Morgan, Carlie, Aiden, Logan, Brady and Charlie; as well as numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Josh’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Sanctuary Hospice for all of the compassionate and supportive care he and they received throughout his illness.
Funeral services will begin 2 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2026, at Lane Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave.
Friends may call noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Joshua will be laid to rest near his father in Green Haven Memorial Gardens, Canfield.
