John S. Gibson 1935-2026
BOARDMAN — John Saul Gibson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, after a brief stay at Shepherd of the Valley.
Born July 4, 1935, in Warren, Pa., he was the only son of Willard and Martha Dentler Gibson.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Shirley. He was a loving father to Karen (Seattle), Susan (Nick) Klosterman of Cincinnati and Lynn and John, both of Dallas. He had one granddaughter, Alina, of Seattle.
Dad was a family man and enjoyed any time our family could be together.
He was the definition of a faithful and godly man and leaves that legacy in many areas of life. Further, he leaves his mark of faithful influence through years of serving and ministering to others. A 40-year member of Old North Church in Canfield, he enjoyed fellowship through Bible studies, Sunday school and serving as a deacon. He also served many in need through the Gideons; taking communion to those who were confined; Meals on Wheels; and through prison ministry.
He enjoyed a few favorite interests as well: basketball, fishing, working out at the Boardman YMCA, reading mystery novels and working around the house. He loved our 10 years of family vacations at the beach, watching the waves while he drank his morning (and afternoon and evening) coffee.
John was a graduate of Purdue University and served his entire career in the steel industry as a metallurgical engineer, primarily at Youngstown Sheet and Tube and at Rouge Steel in Dearborn, Michigan.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
A celebration of life service for John will be Monday, April 27, at the Old North Church in Canfield. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m.
