John A. Kay Sr. 1945-2026
GIRARD — John Albert Kay Sr., 80, passed away Monday, March 30, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
John was born Sept. 24, 1945, in Youngstown, a son to Albert and Wanda Humble Kay.
He graduated from Girard High School and was a member of Girard First United Methodist Church.
After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.
A lifelong resident, John worked for the City of Girard in the water department, retiring after 25 years of service.
He was an avid sports fan, cheering specifically for Ohio teams. He could be found watching Ohio State, the Guardians, the Browns or the Cavs on any given day. Highlighting his love for sports, he also coached Girard’s Little League and Pony League baseball teams for many years.
He leaves behind his two sons, John Kay and Joseph Kay; his sister, Susan (Edward) Ardale; brother, James (Beverly) Kay; granddaughter, Theresa Rose Kay; and his beloved dog, Archie.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Cretella Kay, whom he married Jan. 27, 1984, and who passed away April 11, 2020. He is also preceded by his brothers, Richard, Russell and Thomas “Sandy” Kay.
The family will receive relatives and friends 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, with a memorial service following at noon.
He will be laid to rest in Girard Cemetery with military honors.
