James F. Fordyce 1935-2026

BOARDMAN — James F. Fordyce, 90, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

He was born July 16, 1935, in Portsmouth, a son of the late James and Helen McLaughlin Fordyce. He worked a majority of his life in the iron industry, beginning at Bethlehem Steel, PBI and finally Eichleay Corporation until he retired when he was 59.

James was a man who valued his independence and lived life in a way that felt true to him. He had a steady, grounded presence, and those who knew him understood that he showed his care in quieter, more understated ways.

Golf was a central part of his life. An avid golfer, he spent many years playing in leagues and could often be found out on the course, enjoying both the game and the camaraderie that came with it. He also enjoyed meeting friends for coffee, keeping up with familiar faces and routines he appreciated.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Christy (Kevin Best) Hamarik and Dr. James (Jennifer) Fordyce; and his grandchildren, Amanda (Loren), Jimmy, Morgan (Dallas), Justin and Kooper (Abbey).

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Erna Fordyce; grandchild, Jonathan Hamarik; and his sisters, Dawn Crose, Mary Pheiffer and Joy Fordyce.

Per James’ wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman. Please visit www.beckerobits.com to send the family condolences and share your memories.
