STRUTHERS -- Fred Edgar Suman Jr., 77, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Fred was born March 14, 1949, in North Vandergrift, Pa., a son of the late Fred Edgar Sr. and Edna Suzanne (Thomas) Suman.
He was a 1967 graduate of Kiski Area High School in Pennsylvania. On July 14, 1986, Fred married the love of his life, the former Penny Dennis. Fred and Penny shared 39 beautiful years of marriage.
Fred was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent 32 years as a welder at Youngstown State University and later worked for 10 years as a groundskeeper for the Youngstown Diocese.
Fred was truly a jack of all trades -- a man who could fix just about anything and always seemed to have a solution no matter the problem. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Fred loved making people laugh and had a natural way of lightening the mood wherever he went. He was generous with his time and talents, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, including watching Westerns, fishing anywhere he could, and shooting pool - a game he was especially skilled at. Fred cherished time spent with his family, especially visiting his daughters in Louisville, Kentucky, and making memories on trips to Disney, his "happiest place on earth." Above all, he was a proud husband, father and "Papa" who deeply loved his grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Penny Suman of Struthers; his children, Amanda Kinteh
and Elizabeth Persello, both of Louisville, Kentucky, Christina (Derrick) Kittle of Champion and Michael (Bethany) Nelson of Niles; his cherished grandchildren, Lela Suman, Natalie Kittle, Nathan Kittle, Carter Persello and Michael Henry Nelson; his sisters, Donna McAllister of North Vandergrift, Pa. and Mary Jane "Peewee" Carman of Rivesville, W.Va.; and his brother-in-law, George (Clara) Dennis of Youngstown, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Harriett Hall and Dorothy "Sissy" Harding; and several beloved dogs.
