Frank R. D’Apolito 1928-2026
Together again
BOARDMAN — Frank R. D’Apolito, 97, peacefully passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026, with his loving family by his side.
Frank was born Aug. 12, 1928, on the South Side of Youngstown, the son of Lumeno and Filomena Martoriello D’Apolito.
He graduated from South High School.
Frank was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served in the Mediterranean and North Africa.
He worked as a transportation supervisor for Leonard Kirtz School.
He met Catherine S. Modarelli D’Apolito in 1950 at Avon Oaks Ballroom, and they were married on Nov. 29, 1952. They were married for 72 years before her passing in February 2025.
Frank will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards with friends and family, and outings to the casino. He was an active participant in local veteran and Italian American organizations. Frank’s sense of humor, generosity and intelligence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind his children, Phyllis (Joseph) Messuri, Frank (Valerie) D’Apolito, Anthony D’Apolito and David D’Apolito; his grandchildren, Kristin (Jacob), Samantha (Daniel), Mark (Julie), Joseph (Beth), Alli, Christopher (fiancee Stephanie) and Gianna (Ritvik); and his great-grandchildren, Viviana, Cayden, Callen, Carmen, Norah and Andi; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; his brothers, Tony, John and Andrew; and his sister, Carmella.
Friends and family may pay their respects to Frank 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2026, and 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2026, at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.
A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2026, with the Rev. Stephen Zeigler, at St. Catherine of Sienna Parish-St. Charles Campus, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman.
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown.
Frank’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. John Gianetti and his medical assistant, Laura; the team at Fresenius Kidney Care Cornersburg; his physical therapist, Patrick; and Ed and Diane Reese and the staff at The Inn at Ironwood, for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all donations be sent in Frank’s name to St. Vincent de Paul Society through St. Charles Church, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman, OH 441512.
