Evelyn Franklin 1954-2026

GIRARD — Evelyn Franklin, 71, of Girard, a cherished figure known affectionately as “Mom” by many, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Austinwoods Nursing Home.

Evelyn was born on April 29, 1954, in Youngstown, a daughter to the late Emmett L. and Laura Belle Ackerman Waller.

A graduate of Canfield High School, Class of 1972, Evelyn overcame the challenges of dyslexia with remarkable determination. Her academic achievements were only one facet of a vibrant life that blended professional dedication and artistic passion. She carved a diverse career path as a managing beautician, restaurant server and assistant manager at Johnson University, keeping a steady “B” average during her time studying there.

Evelyn’s artistic talents were a true highlight of her life. An award-winning artist and outdoor photographer, her paintings and photographs were exhibited in numerous shows across the region, celebrated for their beauty and emotional depth. Beyond visual arts, Evelyn’s crafts, including dream catchers and wreaths, received accolades and were proudly displayed in private homes and local restaurants, demonstrating her versatile creativity and the heartfelt care she infused into every piece.

She also was a certified herbalist, showcasing her knack for holistic approaches.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas M. Franklin Sr., whom she married on April 6, 1974, and their children, Thomas (Julie) Franklin and Heather Mulidore. Evelyn’s legacy lives on through her beloved grandchildren: Austan, Haylee, Macayla, and Aidan. She also leaves behind her sister, Laura Jean Waller; and her brothers, Robert Waller, Leroy Waller and Kenneth Waller; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be greatly missed by those that loved her.

Along with her parents Evelyn was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles “Skip” Waller and Emmett Waller Jr.

A private service was held for the family.

The family would like to thank St. Elizabeth Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital as well as Austinwoods Rehab Center and Affinity Hospice, for the compassionate care they gave Evelyn while she was in their care.
