Eugene J. Malovec 1932-2025
BOARDMAN — Eugene Joseph Malovec, 93, formerly of Mayfield Drive, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, at Greenbriar Healthcare Center in Boardman, surrounded by his loving family.
Eugene, affectionately known to family and friends as “Sonny,” was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Cleveland, a son of the late Joseph and Marion Glowsky Malovec. He moved to the Mahoning Valley as a child and attended Youngstown State University.
Sonny was a combat veteran serving in the U.S. Army First Cavalry Division in the Korean War.
He spent many years working as a salesman at Men-Guer Chrysler-Plymouth in Struthers, where he ultimately retired as manager. He took great pride in his work and the relationships he built throughout his career.
Above all, Sonny cherished time spent with his family. In his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling and visiting casinos, pursuits that brought him much enjoyment over the years.
Sonny is survived by his three children, Robert Malovec of Lowellville, Renee (Vince) Peloza of Poland and Coni Malovec of Struthers; two grandchildren, Justin Malovec of Florida and Heather Peloza of Pittsburgh, Pa.; his sister, Marion Bialik of Boardman; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Joseph Bialik, and his beloved four-legged companion, “Bear.”
A graveside service with full military honors will begin at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273.
