Edward C. McKenzie 1936-2026
HAMILTON — Edward C. McKenzie, 89, passed away Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones at Gateway Springs Health Campus in Hamilton.
He was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Youngstown, the son of Edward L. and Sally McKenzie (formerly Grasso) and he lived in the Youngstown area for most of his life. He was a 1955 graduate of Rayen High School, where he played center on the football team.
He joined the Navy in January 1957 to serve his country and was honorably discharged in December 1960.
He was a dedicated employee of East Ohio Gas Co. for 34 years, working as a meter reader, appliance service representative and supervisor. He was respected and earned a reputation for his work and customer relations, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He received the President’s Award for quality service.
He served as lieutenant governor for the Ohio District of Kiwanis International from 1996 to 1997 and again from 1998 to 1999, as well as serving in various other capacities within the organization.
He married the former Patricia Rauch in 1964, and they had two children together. She passed away in 1968. He married the former Helen Gray in 1976, with whom he had one child.
He was a loving son, husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, all of whom were the joys of his life.
Edward was a devoted and loving father with a great sense of humor. He had a love for traveling and French culture. He was an avid golfer and loved the beach and football. Most of all, he loved cracking jokes with family and friends, preferably over a pasta dinner. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his beloved family: his daughter, Margaret Dubaj of Niles, with whom he made his home; his sons, Patrick (Amy) McKenzie and Michael McKenzie, both of Cincinnati; his six grandchildren, Kelly, Kenneth (Emilee) and Kevin Dubaj, and Rachel, Aaron and Laura McKenzie; his great-grandchild, Madeline Dubaj; his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Marsh of Liberty Township; his niece and nephew, Sally (Keith) Corso of Liberty Township and Arthur (Mary) Marsh of St. Marys, Kansas; many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews; and his sister-in-law, Margaret Kaputa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; his brother, Donald E. McKenzie; his brother-in-law, Arthur L. Marsh; and his infant niece, Colleen Marsh.
Family and friends may gather for visitation 11 a.m. to noon Friday, April 10, 2026, at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, with a service to follow at noon.
