HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- Donald Merrill, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Beeghly Oaks Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 6, 1935, in Fairmont, W.Va., to Calvin and Blanche Parker Merrill, Don moved to this area as a boy.
He attended Poland Seminary High School.
He married Anna Marie Pacillo on Nov. 19, 1955. They were married 56 years before her death on Nov. 7, 2011.
He began his career at Republic Steel and worked there for 38 years before retiring as foreman. He then worked at Carbon Limestone for another 10 years before officially retiring in 1999.
In his younger days, Don was a talented dancer. He loved country music and polkas and was an avid gardener and an award-winning winemaker. He loved going to the casino.
He is survived by his children, Donald (Jody) Merrill Jr. and Diane Merrill of Boardman and Lori (Woodrow) Stone of Canfield; three grandchildren, Chip (Kristy) Stone of Indianapolis, Sammy (Amanda) Merrill of Oakton, Virginia, and Maria (Molly) Merrill of Cincinnati; three great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
Private services were Friday, April 10, 2026.
Burial was held in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
