Dolores J. Schurko 1932-2026
BOARDMAN — Dolores Jean Schurko, 93, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Woodlands at Hampton Woods in Poland.
She was born May 8, 1932, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late George and Marie Vranekovic Bezjak. She graduated from Wilson High School and attended Youngstown College.
She had a gentle, giving spirit that made people feel at ease the moment they were around her. A true sweetheart, she was kind in a quiet, steady way — always thinking of others before herself and finding small ways to care for the people in her life. Her time with the PTA at Wilson and Adams schools was just one reflection of that, as she willingly gave her energy wherever it was needed.
Dolores found so much joy in being with others. Whether it was sitting down with her 500 card club, spending time with her senior citizens group, enjoying a game of bingo or taking a trip to the casino, she loved the laughter and companionship that came with those moments. It was never really about the activity — it was about the people and the memories made along the way.
Her home was a place where everyone felt welcome. She was a natural hostess, happiest when she had people gathered around her table. Meals like her chicken paprikash, pork roast and pizzelles were made with love and meant to be shared. She believed in the importance of sitting down together, making time for one another and creating a sense of warmth and belonging that people carried with them long after they left.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Cathy (Jeff) DiPietro, Marci (Bill) Rowland, Steve (Josie) Schurko and Robert (Trish) Schurko; grandchildren, Ryan DiPietro, Brianna Schurko, Corey (Justin) Schurko, Tyler (fiancee Shayla) Schurko, Paige (Mark) Brooks, Ashley DiPietro and Mariah (Dom) Liva; great-grandchildren, Carson and Bella; her brother, Richard Bezjak; sister-in-law, Phyllis Bezjak; and special niece, Renee D’Amato, who was like another daughter to her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Schurko; her grandchild, Nicholas Schurko; her brother, Paul Bezjak; and her sister-in-law, Beverly Bezjak.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and aides of Woodlands at Hampton Woods for their compassionate care of Dolores in her time of need.
Friends and family will be received 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home in Boardman, followed by a Divine Liturgy beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Infant Jesus of Prague Church. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Lake Park Cemetery.
