Daniel R. Taneyhill Sr. 1937-2026

AUSTINTOWN — It is with much sadness that the family of Daniel Robert Taneyhill Sr. announces he passed away at 11:40 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, at Brookdale Senior Living in Austintown, the place he called “home” for the past year. He was 88 years old.

He left this world peacefully, embraced by the deep love of his daughter, Hope, and her significant other; his lifelong friend, Joe, and his son Russ; the compassionate staff of Brookdale Austintown; and the amazing staff from Akeso Hospice. The love that was palpable on his final day of preparation to the Lord was beyond beautiful.

Daniel, a man whose quiet strength and steady love shaped the lives of everyone around him, was born Nov. 5, 1937, in Altoona, Pa., the son of John Herbert and Helen Howard Taneyhill.

Daniel’s life was marked by kindness, humility and a devotion that never needed to be spoken to be felt.

After graduating from Hollidaysburg High School in Pennsylvania in 1955, he worked as a linesman at WB Battenfield Construction Co. In 1957, he moved to Ohio and began his lifelong career with the Warren Telephone Co., which later became the United Telephone Co. and then Sprint. In 1978, he accepted a promotion that took him to Mansfield as regional plant supervisor of supplies. In 1980, he became staff supervisor of inventory control, and in 1984, he was promoted to regional supervisor of plant supplies for all districts in Ohio. By 1985, his duties expanded to include regional supervisor of transportation for all districts. He retired Jan. 1, 1992, as chief district manager of transportation and supply.

He exemplified the virtues of diligence and consistent hard work and dedication as his legacy to his family. He had a gentle way of making others feel safe and understood, offering comfort through his presence, his patience and the steady wisdom he carried throughout his life. He found joy in the simple things — spending time with family, familiar routines and the everyday moments that often become the most meaningful memories. Those who knew him will remember the warmth in his smile, the calm in his voice, the way he showed his love through quiet, consistent acts of love and concern for your well-being and his sense of silliness and funny rhymes that made everyone laugh with him. Above all, he cherished his family, and his love, guidance and steady spirit will continue to live on in each of them.

In his retirement years, he also sold real estate for Cortland Realty, was employed at the Trumbull Country Club Golf Course and enjoyed ushering at the Mahoning Valley Scrappers games.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Niles and spent over 20 years of winters in Bradenton, Florida.

Daniel’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his surviving daughters, Faith (Don) Yauger of Mason City, Iowa, and Hope (Gary Jennings) Taneyhill-Galbreath of Niles; his sons, Chris (Pennie) Taneyhill Sr. of Canfield and Tim (Nan) Taneyhill of North Canton; bonus son, Mark (Lori) Joseph of Fletcher, North Carolina; and his daughter-in-law, Rosiland Taneyhill.

Also surviving to continue to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Jason Yauger, Amy Yauger Garrett, Daniel Taneyhill III, Darren Taneyhill, Matthew Taneyhill, Victoria Galbreath Schaepe, Christopher Taneyhill Jr., Stephanie Taneyhill, Zachary Taneyhill, Alexandra Taneyhill, Michael Joseph and Lindsey (Joseph) Lester; his 19 precious great-grandchildren; and the newest addition to the family, his first great-great-granddaughter.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his beloved wife and soulmate, Mary Lou Taneyhill, whom he married Jan. 27, 1979, in Mansfield; brother, Herbert Eugene Taneyhill; sister, Mary Krise; son, Daniel R. Taneyhill Jr.; grandson, Brian P. Yauger; and bonus son, Russell Joseph.

We bid farewell to Mr. Daniel Robert Taneyhill Sr., a man of gentle demeanor, hardworking, unwavering affection and enduring joy. May he rest in peace as we honor a life filled with purpose, love of family, faith and a mind that is now free in the hands of God.

A celebration of Daniel’s life will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2026, at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home in Warren, where family and friends will gather to share stories, honor his memory and reflect on a life lived with warmth and heart. Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He will be laid to rest next to his loving wife in Niles Community Cemetery.
