Brett E. Monroe 1958-2026

Brett was born Dec. 13, 1958, in Youngstown, to Harold and Shirley Richards Monroe.

He was a 1977 graduate of Fitch High School.

He joined the Marines 4th Landing Support Battalion in September 1978 and later served

with the 9th Marine Regiment. After his time in the Marines, he joined the U.S.

Army National Guard. In his time in the military, he saw action in Lebanon, the

Persian Gulf and Bosnia. He was a disabled veteran.

In civilian life, he was a tower climber and installed communication equipment in large facilities.

He enjoyed fishing and time with his coffee buddies, as well as time spent with his wife. He was an avid supporter of his family in the Philippines.

Brett was preceded in death by his father, Harold “Bud” Monroe.

He is survived by his loving wife, Emma Monroe of Hubert, whom he married Dec. 23, 1989; his daughter, Rosemarie Rivera; his son, Ralph; and three grandchildren, Tristen, Mia and Heavyn; as well as his mother of Austintown, and his sister, Wendy (Dave) Leonhart, also of Austintown; as well as nephews.

Services were held April 1, 2026, at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He was interred at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville with military honors.
