Anthony J. D’Apolito 1946-2026
OCALA, Fla. — In sunny Florida, Anthony J. “Tony Dap” D’Apolito ran into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, March 19, 2026, just shy of his 80th birthday. He was a man who cherished and loved his family with all his heart.
He is the faithful husband of 58 years to Patty Kana D’Apolito; supportive father of T.J. (Holly) D’Apolito and Deanne (Randy) Carr; and proud “Papa” to Joey and Karley D’Apolito, and Olyvia, Reece, Raymond (Madison) and Emmalee Carr. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Jeannie) and Ron (Brenda); his sister, MaryAnn (Dan) Turner; his brother-in-law, David (Nancy) Kana; and his sister-in-law, Julianne (Bill) Forsythe.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anne Crisci D’Apolito; his father-in-law, Martin Kana; his mother-in-law, Margaret Siman Kana Fittante; his brother, Andrew D’Apolito; and his son, T.J. D’Apolito.
A 1964 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Tony took great pride in his many accomplishments, but even more so in his family – especially in the lives of his grandchildren. He always strived to give his very best, and he did just that throughout his life as an Army MP, a police sergeant with the YPD, a bridge specialist superintendent, and an investigator and grand jury bailiff with the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office.
He was proud to be a graduate of the 115th FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. His blood ran blue. When a job change and a life-altering accident in 1983 left him a quadriplegic, it never defined him or slowed his spirit. He continued to live life to the fullest, relying on his faith in God to guide him in being the best man he could be.
Tony was a man of faith, brave, strong, outgoing, adventurous and impulsive. By God’s grace, he thrived for 42 years in a wheelchair, always with a positive attitude and a smile on his face.
Please celebrate Tony’s life with us at noon Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Greenford Christian Church, Main Campus, 11767 Lisbon Road, Greenford, OH 44422. Calling hours will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
