Thomas J. Madeline Sr. 1950-2026

HUBBARD — Thomas J. Madeline Sr., 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born Sept. 11, 1950, in Youngstown, Thomas was the son of Anthony and Estella Vensel Madeline. He was a proud 1969 graduate of Hubbard High School.

Thomas devoted much of his life to serving both his country and his community. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1972, achieving the rank of E5 sergeant and earning the Bronze Star for his bravery and commitment. Following his military service, he worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube, later LTV, from 1972 to 1982. He then continued his calling to serve others as a police officer for the city of Hubbard from 1985 until his retirement in 2005. During his time on the force, he became the city’s first canine handler alongside his loyal partner, Kody, and was a proud member of the Hubbard Fraternal Order of Police.

Thomas was a man who found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. He loved spending time outdoors walking his property, taking in the beauty of nature, hunting and fishing. He especially cherished time spent with his best buddy, Louis Schmuck, sharing laughter, stories and friendship. His faith was also an important part of his life, and he was a devoted member of Covenant Life Fellowship Church in Hubbard.

Above all, Thomas was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his children, Amy (JD) Hartwell of Lewis Center, Lori Madeline of Sandy Springs, Georgia, Thomas J. (Jennifer) Madeline Jr. of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, and Kevin (Lindsey) Harvey of Stow. He was a proud and loving grandfather to nine grandchildren, Abigail Kondrad, Edward Kondrad, Gabrielle Madeline, Jude Madeline, Lalita Harvey, Maya Harvey, Willow Harvey, Scarlett Bromelmeier and Santina Harvey, each of whom brought him immense joy. Thomas is also survived by his brothers, Anthony (Sally) Madeline of Hubbard, Kenneth (Rodney) Madeline of San Antonio, Texas, and Daniel Madeline of Hubbard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Joanne I. Harvey, whom he married June 15, 1990.

Thomas will be remembered for his strength, his quiet kindness, his deep sense of duty and the love he shared with family and friends.
