Robert A. Johnson 1943-2026
Robert A. Johnson
AUSTINTOWN — Robert Allen Johnson, 82, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Humility House.
He was born Nov. 16, 1943, in Canton, a son of the late Paul and Marjorie Caygill Johnson.
He married Carla Diane Fitzler on June 4, 1966. They shared more than 59 years of marriage together and raised three grateful children.
Robert was a 1961 graduate of Western Reserve High School. He was an Air Force medic and served eight years with the Air Force, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He and Carla moved back to Ohio, and he went on to retire from General Motors. In his retirement, he became certified as a disaster relief volunteer. Bob volunteered over 30 hours a week at the Red Cross blood drives. He was an avid reader and could usually be found with a book in hand or very nearby. He also enjoyed hunting grouse and fishing for trout.
More than anything, though, he loved being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather — and he was a great one! He cheered his kids on in any sport or activity they attempted and was even known to coach on occasion. That support continued with his grandchildren, often traveling many miles to be a cheerleader and support to them as well.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Lisa (Alberto) Polo, C. Scott Johnson (Ronit Kirchman) and Krista Beeler; grandchildren, Robert (Shelby Boyer) Polo, Rory Polo, Caleb Beeler, Micaela (Sam) Forsey, Kaj Beeler, Mairen Polo, Alexander Kirchman-Johnson and Theodore Kirchman-Johnson; great-grandchildren, Ophelia Beeler and Penelope Boyer-Polo; and siblings, Paul “Terry” Johnson and Catherine Johnson.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carla Johnson.
Bob was loved by many, many people because he loved people. The older he got, the softer his heart became, and that love was returned to him tenfold.
The Johnson family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful staff at Aventura Humility House for their generosity and never-ending love. It was felt by all of us, and we are grateful.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at Lane Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
Family and friends may pay their respects 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Robert will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Boardman.
Arrangements for Bob are being provided by the Lane Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave.
