Patrick J. Fecko 1937-2026
NEW MIDDLETOWN — Patrick Joseph Fecko died Wednesday, March 18, 2026, on his 89th birthday.
He was born March 18, 1937, in Youngstown, a son of Andrew Fecko and the former Mary Kicos.
Patrick walked across the street to attend St. Matthias Grade School. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1956, Patrick was known for his love of football and his cherished memories of driving his 1949 Mercury.
He worked at Alpine Lumber, a family business founded by his grandfather in 1916. Patrick took over the company and, in total, devoted 60 years of his life to the craft of carpentry and craftsmanship.
Pat was proud of his military service to America. While stationed at Fort Gordon, he attended the 1960s Masters to cheer Arnold Palmer to victory.
His competitiveness was a legacy. Pat was a large part of Cardinal Mooney football as he cherished the chance to help his son, PJ Fecko, while coaching at Cardinal Mooney High School, where they celebrated four unforgettable state football championships together. He loved to travel to the University of Notre Dame. He never missed a Notre Dame football game or his daughter Pandora’s Notre Dame golf tournaments. Pat had a passion for golf, especially playing with his family. Pat also loved rooting for Youngstown State football while supporting his daughter, Pam, cheering for the Penguins.
Pat’s greatest passion was his family. He married the love of his life, Angie Amendola, on Oct. 22, 1960. He held deep pride in his Slovak heritage but married a strong-willed Italian woman. The family ate pirogies on Fridays and pasta on Sundays. Pat looked forward to hosting big Sunday dinners with the kids, polkas, Italian serenades and laughter. Pat loved to go on family vacations, especially to Disney World, as he was a “regular” at the parks. He was a role model for his kids; “Do the right thing” and “work harder” were constant phrases. He was proud to have sent his kids to Catholic schools, St. Charles and Cardinal Mooney. Later, he loved to spend time with his grandkids and at their events.
He was a kind soul who could easily tell stories about Youngstown’s past. He was a positive and proud man who met every challenge with an iron will.
Patrick is survived by his wife, the former Mary Angela Amendola, whom he married Oct. 22, 1960; daughters, Pamela (Mike) Wardle of North Lima and Pandora Fecko of New Middletown; son, Patrick “PJ” (Gina) Fecko II; brother, James Fecko; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Mike) Rusu, Morgan Wardle, Mallory Wardle, and Lia, Alexa, Patrick III, Vincent and Gianna Fecko.
In addition to his parents, Patrick was preceded in death by his uncles, Joey, Frankie, Tommy and Pete (Frances) Kicos.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at St. Charles Church. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
There will be no public calling hours; however, the family has extended an invitation to all to join them for a luncheon at St. Charles immediately following Mass.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel. Family and friends are invited to visit www.higgins-reardon.com to share memories and condolences.
